Fashion photos for Atelier Gunjak

It’s been a year since I posted any news on the site, and there’s certainly no shortage of news. That’s why I decided to share a small series of fashion photos from the shoot for Milica Gunjak, a creative fashion designer who has been designing dresses for a long time, and now officially under the name Atelier Gunjak.

Milica Gunjak designs elegant, luxury dresses for special occasions, and you may find her on Instagram here. We did not shoot in my studio in New Belgrade, but in a rented studio in the city center. We had two hours to capture a dozen outfits on one model.

Flowers as inspiration

Dresses she creates are romantic but bold, and follow the shape of the female body. The silhouette is feminine and highlights the most beautiful female body’s features. However, inspired by nature, she confidently breaks that shape with floral details, which enriches the dresses with a recognizable authenticity.

I especially love her choice of basic colors, which adhere to the strict rules of aesthetics, yet give the impression of eternal beauty.

I photographed on a white background with one main large diffuse reflector. Thus, the shadows remained soft, the colors faithful to the original dresses, and the brilliant structure of the material was shown faithfully, without too many details. The photo studio where we had this photo shoot has sharp shadows of natural lighting during one part of the day, so we used natural light for some of the shots.

In the studio, the photographer has power and control over light and framing, and operates as he wishes. The biggest advantage of shooting in a studio is that the photographer does not have to adapt to the conditions of shooting on location. That’s why such a photo session offers incredible freedom of creative expression, and one should always enter the studio with a clear idea and concept.

Fashion photography is chemistry. Alchemy.

Fashion photos shouldn’t just be a flattering way to show the “product” in an attractive way. They should be the result of a clear vision of the photographer, and often of the entire team, along with the art direction. That’s why working in a studio offers the opportunity to use photographic resources to show an idea unambiguously, exactly as it was intended.

Finally, a photographer’s vision in such conditions depends on the chemistry between the model and him. If the synergy is good, light and shadows merge into a harmonious dance, women in elegant dresses become real art. Every Milica Gunjak’s dress tells its own story – from luxurious fabrics that shimmer under the light, to details that reveal the perfection of craftsmanship. With my camera, in the two hours we had for this shoot, I did my best to bring to life the woman’s beauty, grace, and strength highlighted by her dresses. As I mentioned before, you can find Atelje Gunjak’s Instagram here.
