Fluid Identity – Night Smile – Fine Art Print
This series of digital photographs explores the fluidity and variability of identity and the continuous development of the self through liberation from self-image. Although the distortion of the face and body may seem unattractive or ugly to some, it represents a step toward freedom from the finite version of self. I depict a person as “fluid”, transient, through a distorted form shaped by the ripples of reflection in the water.
Identity is mutable, and any finality of personality is its ultimate death.
Photography is supposed to depict things as they are, directly. I played with this very characteristic of photography – attempting to abstract our depiction of ourselves. Perhaps, if we move away from regular forms and expected figuration, we might find a new identity, and reach a new truth and reality.
Technique: digital photography, printed on art paper, without editing in processing programs.
